13 Responses to “Can Raptors retain Chris Bosh with another 1st Round Exit?”

  1. Raps Fan Says:

    I don’t think winning in the playoffs this year will have any baring on whether or not Bosh resigns. I would be more concerned with how the Raptors play for the rest of the season.

  2. Scott G Says:

    pistons below the wizards? and 9 games behind the sixers?? I think it’s a bit misleading/irrelevant to make individual game predictions for the rest of the year.

    That said, I don’t think this post loses any steam if you cut out the “predicted final records” bit and just assume two things: (1) we make the playoffs as a 5-8 seed, and (2) we play CLE, ORL, ATL, or BOS. None of those matchups give us much of a chance to make it out of the first round (although I’d like our chances against ORL the best), so I think the point remains the same — is a 1st-round exit good enough?

    Personally, I’m of the same view as RF — I think there are many kinds of first round exits. If we go down swinging, I think we have as good a shot as any to retain CB4. If we are annihilated, I’m less optimistic. Getting to the 2nd round in the east this year just isn’t a realistic goal with the team we have. Top-heavy conference with a lot of talent at the top…

    HNY!

  3. Tinman Says:

    Fail to see the point of this post.

  4. Aaron Says:

    Not sure if it depends totally on the all but certain first-round exit, but on where we are seeded, and we how far we can take the series. It will also largely depend on the team making an offer. Obviously Texas will have a big advantage in the Bosh sweepstakes and Bosh would probably, in my opinion. be a good fit in Houston, making them a legitimate contender in the west. I hope your prediction for the eighth seed is incorrect, we shall see…

  5. brothersteve Says:

    As in your previous forecasts, I believe that you have seriously under-estimated the Raptors ability to beat weak teams.

    And the Raps will steal a couple from the better clubs - but I understand just how hard it is to figure out who and when.

    I see little difference in whether the Raps finish in 5th or 8th. The first round result will be the same.

    Looking for 47 wins (would be surprised at 44), no better than 5th and a first round playoff exit.

    Bosh is likely to stay but I wouldn’t leave this to chance. Colangelo should force the issue.

    Can Raptors retain Chris Bosh with another 1st Round Exit?…

    One day were celebrating franchise records, the next were looking at yet another Toronto Raptors 1st Round playoff exit. But we already knew and acknowledge that the Raptors would finish the 09-10 season anywhere between 6 - 10 in the Eastern Conferenc…

    Raps Fan,

    IMO, those two prongs [i.e. 1. How they play the rest of this season; and, 2. If they lose in the 1st Rd again] are parts of the same fork.

    Scott G.,

    re: the relevance of making individual game predictions

    IMO, making individual game predictions for the balance of the season is the exact opposite of “irrelevant”.

    Although many different individuals and web sites are capable [and fond] of posting their “projected win totals” for an individual team, or several different teams …

    Have you ever seen this done for ALL of the remaining games in the regular season schedule for ALL of the teams in a conference? … and, in the process, an extrapolation of what those individual game results would then mean for each of those same teams, relative to one another’s finish in the standings?

    [NOTE: If you have, then, please point me to that location with a link, if at all possible.]

    IMO, stating that Team A is likely going to finish with X Number Of Wins this season is quite irrelevant, unless you also indicate [i] which specific games you happen to think this team is actually going to win, [ii] what those results would then mean for its opponents AND then [iii] do the same thing for each of that team’s competitiors, in order to see where it is you have these team finishing in the Final Standings, relative to one another.

    Tinman,

    Since the Raptors have begun to play better in recent games, and are now approaching the .500 mark [17-18], there’s a tendency for certain observers to think that the team’s long term prospects for the season, on the whole, may have improved substantially.

    When you consider where the team is today, however, relative to:

    i. What the organizations goals were at the beginning of the season;
    ii. Where the other teams are positioned in the Eastern Conference;
    iii. Where the Raptors will most likely finish at the end of the 2009-2010 season, relative to the other top squads in the East;

    it places their work this in the proper context and gives a more wholistic view to what Chris Bosh might be thinking when it comes to signing his next contract as a professional basketball player.

    You, of course, are entiled to hold your own perspective on the matter.

    2. I, too, hope the Raptors are able to finish above the 8th position in the East this season. At the moment, however, this looks like a fairly dicey proposition.

    brothersteve,

    IMO, there’s a difference between finishing 8th and finishing 4th or 5th.

    8th means that you are most likely going to be eliminated from the playoffs fairly quickly.

    4th or 5th means that you have a legit shot at making it to the conference semi’s, and, therefore a date with the likes of Boston, Orlando or Cleveland in the 2nd Round.

    From an organizational growth standpoint … the 2nd option is a great deal more promising than the 1st option, if you happen to be a 25 year old all-star player with the world by the proverbial tail.
