FYI, re: specific NBA expertise

For those who have visited this blog before, even you might not know yet that yours truly is the only NBA Analyst in the world who:

#1. Selected the Boston Celtics to win the 2007-2008 NBA Finals, over the Los Angeles Lakers, before that series tipped off;

AND,

#2. Selected the Los Angeles Lakers to beat the Denver Nuggets in the 2008-2009 Western Conference Finals, before this series tipped off;

AND,

#3. Selected the Orlando Magic to beat the Cleveland Cavaliers in the 2008-2009 Eastern Conference Finals, before this series tipped off;

AND,

#4. Selected the Los Angeles Lakers to win the 2008-2009 NBA Title, in May of 2008, immediately prior to the start of the 2007-2008 NBA Finals [i.e. 12 months ago].

When certain individuals with rather “loud” voices on the internet ask the question:

“What so-called expertise do you have that sets you apart from me and others who watch the game as a regular NBA fan?”

… part of the answer involves being CORRECT about things like #1., #2., and #3., above.

If the Los Angeles Lakers actually win the 2008-2009 NBA Championship over the Orlando Magic, in the next few weeks, you can then add #4., above, to this same list.

    Okay… I’ve got to call you out on this one: please show me where you picked Orlando to beat Cleveland. I recall you saying the series would be close, and that, given the series line, Orlando was a good play… but I do NOT recall you saying ORL would beat CLE outright prior to the start of the series.

    I’m not questioning your hoops knowledge; I just don’t see the need for this sort of post.

    Scott G.,

    #1. re: Orlando over Cleveland, as a public pick

    You are absolutely correct in your observation.

    I did not make a “public” pronouncement this year regarding a “series winner” for any of the individual match-ups, thus far, in the 2008-2009 post season.

    What I’ve made public this year, instead, are my individual game selections for the NBA Playoffs, on a game by game basis, free of charge to those who take the time to read this blog.

    As far as I know, there is no other NBA Analyst whose prognostications have realized a +24.80 net unit gain during this post-season.

    In addition, what you see below is a copy of an email which I sent to an individual who happens to run one of the most popular NBA-based web sites in existence, at 8:42 AM on May 21, 2009 [the morning after Game One of the Orlando/Cleveland series]:

    ———————————————–

    Although I have chosen not to publish my series picks during this year’s post-season, I will share these with you:

    Round 1
    Cleveland over Detroit - Winner
    Boston over Chicago - Winner
    Orlando over Philadelphia - Winner
    Atlanta over Miami - Winner
    Los Angeles over Utah - Winner
    Denver over New Orleans - Winner
    Dallas over San Antonio - Winner
    Portland over Houston - Loser

    Round 2
    Cleveland over Atlanta - Winner
    Orlando over Boston - Winner
    Los Angeles over Houston - Winner
    Denver over Dallas - Winner

    Round 3
    Orlando over Cleveland - TBD
    Los Angeles over Denver - TBD

    Round 4
    Los Angeles over Orlando - TBD

    As I predicted last May [2008] … the LA Lakers will win the 2008-2009 NBA Championship.

    PS. If Andrew Bynum had not been injured this season so, too, would the Lakers have made good on the other prediction which I made last May [2008], i.e. that the Lakers [65-17, despite Bynum missing 32 games] would, in fact, win 70+ games during the 2008-2009 Regular Season.

    This is a web site which has linked to several of the pieces on this blog in the past year.

    In addition …

    While this is a link to the specific entry which I wrote on May 19 about the current odds for the Orlando/Cleveland series:

    Cleveland Cavaliers vs Orlando Magic Individual Match-ups

    this [below] is a copy of the actual receipt I have for a transaction made with Pinnacle Sports on May 19, 2009:

    Know that this sort of entry on this blog isn’t necessarily designed for the benefit of an individual like you Scott G., who already has an appreciation for what I might have to say from time to time about sports, in general, or the NBA game, specifically.

    LOL fair enough about the last bit; I know you’ve taken enough flak from various other parties who have no clue about hoops that you’re entitled to a little “I told you so” ;)
